Drag fans rejoice! RuPaul’s Drag Race UK has just been confirmed for a second season, and the first season isn’t even over yet.
Season one slayed audiences across the globe and was a runway success for BBC Three, with 6.5 million total requests on iPlayer at just over halfway through the series.
In the past few weeks we’ve seen the British queens face a myriad of challenges designed to test their drag ability to the max. They’ve served regal runway realness, formed two fierce girlbands, performed Downton Draggy and so much more.
But most importantly, they’ve defied critics who questioned whether RuPaul’s unique brand of camp couture would suit a British cast – instead proving so popular that there’s now a petition for The Frock Destroyers to represent the nation at next year’s Eurovision.
RuPaul said: “I want to thank the BBC and all our fans for their overwhelming support of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.
“This season’s queens proved that Britain’s Got Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent and I want to see more! Here’s to another season of love, laughter and light!”
In recognition of their majesty, BBC Three has just committed to broadcasting another season of the award-winning global hit in 2020 – and applications for the next set of sickening queens are now open.
“The response to the current UK series has been nothing short of dragulous; our viewers have really taken the show and the amazing queens to their hearts,” said Kate Phillips, controller of entertainment commissioning.
“I’m delighted that Ru and the gang are going to shantay stay. Let the search for the next group of queens begin!”
To apply for the next series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, just sashay over here. But hurry, applications need to be in by Friday November 15, 2019.
The current series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is continuing to wow fans on BBC iPlayer on Thursdays from 8pm.
