The Mandalorian’s Armor Won’t Be Complete Until He Has A Jetpack

The Mandalorian‘s titular character, played by Pedro Pascal, got a significant equipment upgrade in episode 3; however, the bounty hunter’s Mandalorian armor won’t be complete until he installs one further piece of equipment: a jetpack.

In the last few episodes of the Disney+ Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian, Pascal’s character has used an impressive array of weapons and technology to fight off his enemies. In episode 3, titled “Chapter 3: the Sin,” the Mandalorian used almost his entire arsenal in an epic showdown that pitted him against the rest of the bounty hunters, all of whom were after his recently-liberated bounty, Baby Yoda. The two unlikely travel companions were rescued at the eleventh hour by the other Mandalorians living on the planet. The tribe flew into the chaos of battle with jetpacks, using the element of surprise to storm their enemy, providing the show’s hero the cover he needed to escape.

As the Mandalorian flees the planet with Baby Yoda, he comments that he “needs to get one of those,” referring to the jetpacks. Careful viewers may recall having seen what appears to be the main character flying a jetpack in The Mandalorian‘s trailer; presumably, the character will acquire one in a later episode.

Boba Fett Mandalorian Armor Jetpack

The jetpack armor upgrade has history in the Star Wars franchise. Boba Fett, the franchise’s most famous “Mandalorian” bounty hunter, wears one in Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi. According to the official Star Wars website, Boba Fett wears “modified” Mandalorian armor, complete with the Z-6 jetpack attachment. The website further states that this is the jetpack of choice among Mandalorians.

Although the series has largely confirmed that Boba and Jango Fett are not Mandalorian, their respective armor choices are based on the traditional Mandalorian armor. The Disney+ series has shown that the Mandalorians take their armor very seriously — in fact, a Mandalorian cannot remove his helmet in front of another living being, or he faces exile from his tribe. The bounty hunter’s sizeable commission for Baby Yoda, which he receives in episode 3, is entirely beskar metal, which he then uses to augment, fix, or otherwise replace completely, his damaged equipment. Clearly, Mando’s armor is his most prized possession.

Will Pascal’s former bounty hunter obtain a jetpack? He almost certainly will, but given how he left things with the Bounty Hunters’ Guild, it won’t be earned through bounty hunting.
