The PondHawks: Merry Christmas

Music

The PondHawks are one of the most successful indie bands in the world. An award-winning original band from Chicago, The PondHawks are changing the style of Pop/Rock music. Catchy melodies are exhilaratingly fresh and Beatles-esque. The songs are delightfully infectious with playful lyricism that is exuberant and gutsy.

Formed in 2007 by songwriting partners Mario Novelli and Jorie Gracen, The PondHawks have since captured a worldwide audience with a pioneering approach to music. Some may call it retro-rock with a now sound, but the band’s unique signature style falls into its own category.

The PondHawks were selected out of 4 million bands to join the prestigious Reverbnation Connect A & R group based in New York City. Connect’s A & R Director, Matt DuFour described The PondHawks’ music as “timeless”.

I had a chat with The PondHawks about their accomplishments in 2019 and the holidays:

Will Santa be visiting The PondHawks this year?

Yes he will… And he’ll be demanding 15% for any holiday song… plus parking validation for his reindeer…

Looking back at the year what was your most triumphant moment, most embarrassing, most fun, most difficult?

Our most triumphant moment was when the audience of over 8,000 at our concert in July held up their cellphones with lights on to give us a salute when we played one of our original songs called, “Sun Rain.”

The most fun show had to be the “Woodstock” gig in August at a huge estate. It was like being in a time warp… Behind the stage there was a clearing in the woods, which the host referred to as “The Enchanted Forest”… And as a bonus to this awesome day, my clothes were finally in style again…

The most difficult show was when a thunderstorm devastated the sound man’s equipment the night before our show and we were forced to work practically without monitors… Plus the whole right side of the main speakers were out… But luckily, since we’ve been working together for so long, we “winged it” and even played an extra hour since we were the headliners that night…

The most embarrassing moment was the time we couldn’t come up with an answer when we were asked what our most embarrassing moment was…

How will you be celebrating New Year’s?

New Year’s Eve will be a combination of friends, family and Marx Brothers movies…

Any New Year’s resolutions?

Yes, we have decided to have no more News Year’s resolutions.

What drives you forward?

The thing that drives us, is sharing our mind creations with other people’s minds via the songs we write…

What can we expect from you in 2020 and beyond?

Relentless writing, recording and performing… Plus, Jorie’s working on building a spaceship so we can be the first band on the moon… There’s already a restaurant up there… The food’s great but there’s no atmosphere…
