Marvel’s America Chavez Returns in New Comic: MADE IN THE USA

Movies

Captain America isn’t the only Marvel hero with “America” in their name, and now it seems America Chavez is returning in a new comic series of her own. Miss America is returning to the page in the upcoming series America Chavez: Made in the USA.

Known by her moniker Miss America, America Chavez is actually the second Marvel hero to dawn this name. The original Miss America, Madeline Joyce, was meant to serve as both a representation of females and socially aware teenagers, which are both clear influences in the modernized America Chavez. America definitely brings a much-needed update to the character being Marvel’s first Latin-American LGBTQ character to star in an ongoing series, providing a strong voice for both the Latin and lesbian community. She was raised in a reality that is out of time known as the Utopian Parallel, but when that reality was threatened, her mother sacrificed herself in order to save everyone. Eventually, America runs away from her home, traveling throughout the multiverse in an effort to prove she too can be a hero.

But when the foundation of everything she believes is shaken, America will stand up and face the parts of herself she’s been running from. From writer Kalinda Vazquez (Marvel’s Runaways) and artist Carlos Gomez (Amazing Mary Jane) comes an explosive, brand-new story all about what made America Chavez who she is – and what she’ll do to protect the ones she loves.

Fighting alongside the likes of Black Panther, Blue Marvel, Spectrum, and Captain Marvel, America has worked her way from the Young Avengers to the A-Force, to becoming a staple member of the Ultimates team. Besides just the typical superhuman strength and ability to fly, America has the ability to open holes in reality that allow her and her teammates to explore the multiverse as well as other realities. Not only can she travel between realities at will, but she’s even able to punch enemies into tiny star fragments and project large energy blasts from a self-generated star, making her one of the Marvel Universe’s most powerful heroes. Which means the sky’s the limit for where this new series will take her.
