Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke Soundtracks Coming to Vinyl for the First Time

Music

The score to Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved 1997 environmentalist animated film Princess Mononoke is getting its first-ever release on vinyl, according to The Vinyl Factory. Written by famed composer Joe Hisaishi, the score will be released in three parts: Princess Mononoke (Symphonic Suite), recorded as a suite with the Czech Philharmonic a year after the release of the movie; Princess Mononoke (Soundtrack), a new recording of the full score with the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra and vocals by Yoshikazu Mera on the main theme song; and Princess Mononoke (Image Album), recorded before the soundtrack was made and based on Miyazaki’s personal notes. All three LPs, which feature remastered audio, new artwork, and liner notes, will be released July 24. Preorders are at Norman Records.

Joe Hisaishi also composed the scores for several other Studio Ghibli films including My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Castle in the Sky, which also recently received first-edition vinyl pressings.
