The Sony-published title Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the second entry in Insomniac Games’ new Marvel universe, and it contains a touching tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman. As fans might expect, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is jam-packed full of references to the larger Marvel universe, including The Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Black Panther, and more. There is even a statue dedicated to Stan Lee located nearby the creator’s original cameo location in Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Earlier in 2020, the incredibly talented Chadwick Boseman passed away after a battle with cancer. It was a heartbreaking loss for the acting world, and for the Marvel family especially, as the actor easily came to define Black Panther.

Although it certainly isn’t the first Marvel property to do so, Spider-Man: Miles Morales honors Chadwick Boseman in a small, but meaningful way. Marvel’s Avengers also honored the actor in a War Table stream earlier this year, delaying the announcement of Black Panther as a post-launch character in the process.
Miles Morales Honors Chadwick Boseman In the Credits
As the credits start in Spider-Man: Miles Morales there are a few lines that pay tribute to the Black Panther actor, dedicating the experience to Chadwick Boseman. Black Panther had a massive effect on superhero movies and the film industry, even becoming the first-ever superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Past the awards and record-breaking tickets sales, it helped push forward diversity and representation in film, especially in a genre that traditionally hasn’t done representation very well. Chadwick Boseman was at the heart of it all, and the loss will be felt by everything Marvel-related for quite some time.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales‘ message is the latest in a long line of tributes and remembrances. Since Boseman’s passing nearly everyone involved in Marvel has paid respects in some way. The actor didn’t talk much about his diagnosis, so the news came as a shock even to many of the actors he worked with in the past. A gorgeous mural honoring Boseman was installed in Disneyland, and Marvel Comics even released its own tribute.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales, of course, is a fitting place for a tribute to the legacy of Chadwick Boseman, as the Puerto Rican hero’s story is all about Miles finding his place in the city of New York. Miles’ story has some obvious similarities to the story of T’Challa. Doubtless, fans will continue to see tributes like this for some time to come.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales launches on November 12 for PS4 and PS5.
