Bon Iver Pledge Royalties to Support Gender Equity

Bon Iver have announced that they will donate five percent of their annual publishing royalties to 2 A Billion, the band’s campaign that works toward ending gender inequality, domestic violence, and sexual abuse. The band was inspired by Jeff Tweedy, who pledged to donate five percent of his “‘writer’s share’ revenue” to Black Lives Matter organizations, highlighting the Movement for Black Lives and Black Women’s Blueprint. Ahead of the 2020 election, Eaux Claires Festival, the Wisconsin music festival founded by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and the National’s Aaron Dessner, ran a voting initiative in the state called “For Wisconsin.” As part of the initiative, Vernon met with undecided voters and debuted new material. Joe Biden ultimately won Wisconsin.
