Sarah Paulson may have lost her category at Sunday night’s Golden Globes (28 February) – but she radiated winning energy.

As the saying goes, it’s not the winning but the taking part that counts – something that’s never really rung true as much as it did watching Sarah Paulson at the Golden Globes.

The actor was nominated for Best TV Actress – Drama at the awards show for her turn in Ryan Murphy’s Ratched, losing out to The Crown’s Emma Corrin.

Dissapointment, however, was the furthest thing from Paulson’s mind. As Corrin accepted the award, the American Horror Story favourite was visibly elated, dancing and grinning from ear to ear.

It was a moment so pure, viewers couldn’t quite handle it.

And that wasn’t even the best of it. Ahead of the winner being announced, all five nominees appeared on giant television screens.

Because 2021, the set-up was far from the most surreal part of the segment. As an audience applauded, Paulson – who was holding her pet dog, Winnie T Paulson – and fellow nominee Olivia Colman were heard demanding Corrin go get her cat.

It was one of many memorable moments at the virtual Golden Globes.

Among the night’s queer winners was Jodie Foster, who accepted the award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for her role in The Mauritian.

It was the first Golden Globe for acting Foster had won in 30 years (she was given the honorary Cecil B. deMille Award in 2013).

As her name was called out, Foster shared a jubilant kiss with her wife, both wearing matching silk pyjama sets as they sat at home.

Other notable winners included Andra Day, who won Best Actress – Drama for her role in The United States vs Billie Holiday, becoming the first Black woman in 35 years to win the category.
