Paramount’s Retooling of the ‘Paranormal Activity’ Franchise Is No Longer Dated; Lead Cast Announced

Horror

As studios continue to rework their distribution plans in the wake of the ongoing pandemic, Paramount Pictures announced that Blumhouse’s upcoming new installment in the Paranormal Activity franchise would be going straight to Paramount+.

At the time, a March 4, 2022 date had been slotted, although it was unclear if there would be a theatrical component to the Paramount+ premieres, much like that of HBO Max and Warner Bros.

As of this writing, Paramount has pulled the film from their release calendar, which could mean one of two things: the film will not be released in theaters, or they just need more time to develop and shoot it.

UPDATE: The Wrap reports tonight that Emily Bader, Roland Buck III, Dan Lippert and Henry Ayres-Brown will lead the cast of the *now-filming* Paranormal Activity movie.

Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is officially on board to write the franchise’s next installment, with William Eubank, fresh off last year’s Underwater, directing.

The new movie has been recently described as “an unexpected retooling” of the franchise, reportedly continuing the tradition of taking a “found footage” approach.

Christopher Landon is no stranger to the franchise, having written the second, third and fourth installments of the series, along with writing and directing PA: The Marked Ones.

Jason Blum and Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli are producing.
