Justice League Darkseid & Superman Funko Pops To Be Released In Color

Movies

Amid the success of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Funko Pops for Darkseid and Superman have been revealed—and they’re in color. For years now, Funko has reimagined pop culture icons as caricature-like vinyl figurines that fans can collect. In the past, Funko has served up figures for everything from Friends to Iron Man. Staying on the superhero end of things, Funko Pops for Batman Beyond and DC Heroes: Dark Nights – Death Metal have been released over the last year.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League—a four-hour movie affectionately known as the Snyder Cut—has been praised by fans and critics alike since it was released two weeks ago. It’s an amended and expanded version of the original Justice League, which was released in November 2017. That film was directed by Joss Whedon when Snyder had to leave the project after a family tragedy in March 2017. After Snyder himself confirmed that Whedon’s version of the film was different from his own, fans sparked a massive grassroots campaign to have Snyder’s Justice League released. It hit HBO Max and some movie theaters on March 18, and it’s been a hot topic ever since. With that in mind, it’s not surprising that these Funko Pops would be announced now.

Today, Funko announced that Funko Pops for Superman and Darkseid are available for pre-order. The figures come in color and black and white metallic. The Superman figure is notably wearing the black and silver alternative outfit he wears in the Snyder Cut. The Darkseid figure wears the same dark, navy blue outfit the character wore in the film. Other new Funko Pops include Wonder Woman carrying an arrow in civilian clothes and DeSaad, who works as one of Darkseid’s loyal disciples. The figures can be pre-ordered on Target, and they cost $8.99 each. They are all set to be released in August.

Justice League Funko Pops

In addition to looking awesome, the Darkseid and Superman Funkos represent some notable differences between the Whedon and Snyder versions of Justice League. In the Whedon version, Darkseid isn’t seen or mentioned once, but in the Snyder cut, fans get to see the villain multiple times, and his shadow looms large over the whole story. Meanwhile, on the Superman side of the equation, the Snyder Cut sees the iconic hero wearing the black and silver version of his signature costume. In the Whedon cut, Superman wears his traditional red and blue outfit—sans the underwear.

The impending release of these Funko Pops speaks to the popularity of the Snyder Cut, which has made such an impact that calls for Warner Bros. to release the full extent of Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe became a trending topic with over 1 million tweets carrying that hashtag. While Warner Bros.’ head honchos have said that won’t happen, it was the fans that helped will the release of the Snyder Cut, so anything is possible. In the meantime, these Funko Pops are a reminder of how great superheroes can be when they’re handled correctly.
