Minecraft Realistic Snow Concept Video Looks Incredible

Movies

A talented Minecraft animator created a deceptively believable CGI video of realistic snow physics in the game. 3D animations of Minecraft are a time-honored tradition among fans of the sandbox game. As time goes on and technology improves both in and out of the game, these videos are only getting more impressive.

Another example of an impressive Minecraft animation presented the entirety of the game within a single block, every side of which envisioned major milestones in the average player’s survival experience. Shown in motion, the scenes included crafting beginner’s tools out of wood, exploring the inhospitable Nether for the first time, and even embarking on the final quest to defeat the Ender Dragon. But while that footage looked more like a traditional video, this new clip could almost pass as genuine gameplay footage.

Courtesy of Redditor Portemay, this new Minecraft animation showcases what realistic snow physics could’ve looked like in the popular survival title. The author didn’t warn the viewers beforehand that the video was actually a CGI edit, so it would certainly be possible for someone to view this film and be fooled into thinking they were looking at a high-quality mod. At the end of the clip, however, a disclaimer appears stating that the video is not real and was made for entertainment purposes only. In the footage, the player opens a door to witness a magical snowy kingdom, which looks too good to be true. The character breathes out clouds, while the piles of snow look almost photo-realistic. The gamer then proceeds to grab a snowball, throwing it at a trapdoor and making it swing vigorously.

Although the amazing CGI demonstration is just a fan’s vision of what Minecraft could hypothetically achieve with modern technologies, the game is actually adopting some advanced visual enhancements. The official support of ray-tracing has been available for quite a while, but given Minecraft’s infinite nature, RTX can only be experienced on certain small maps created specifically for that purpose. Even in its limited state, ray-tracing support creates wonders with the game’s graphics in community-developed worlds.

There’s no doubt that the concept of realistic snow physics in Minecraft is a tempting one, but the disappointing truth is that it’s just an enticing fantasy. Developing such a sophisticated mod is probably impossible, since it would likely require a whole new physics engine for the game. Still, this amazing CGI video expresses well-deserved love for the widely adored game, which recently turned twelve years old, and is still going stronger than ever.
