On a new episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, Yara Zaya’s Ukrainian Christmas dinner backfired horribly, and fans are split over whether or not Yara deserved the criticism she received. In the past, Jovi and Yara’s parenting skills have been called into question, though no one doubts how much they love their daughter Mylah. However, in the latest episode, Jovi and his family teamed up against Yara over some of her decisions as a mother. Viewers are divided over whether Jovi and his family were rightfully critical, or whether they were mom-shaming Yara.
This season, Jovi has been away at work for several months and just recently returned to his wife and daughter. It was also right around Ukrainian Christmas (in early January), so Yara prepared a traditional feast and invited over her mother-in-law Gwen and some of Jovi’s cousins. During the dinner, Jovi’s family learned that Mylah sleeps in the same bed as Jovi and Yara, and it’s preventing the couple from having any alone time. Yara was adamant about co-sleeping with Mylah, but Jovi and his family argued with her that it would lead to attachment issues later on.
Immediately, viewers were divided over which side was right. Many fans sided with Jovi and his family. Not only were they furious over the way Yara treated Gwen and other guests, but they were also highly critical of Yara’s co-sleeping decision. Some fans called her a “psycho mom” and argued that Jovi should have a say in how his daughter is raised. “She’s not just Yara’s kid,” one fan commented. “The child has TWO parents and the way she is refusing to hear anything that is not her own idea in a different voice is what’s annoying.”
Although there were many who think Yara is too controlling of Mylah, she also had a lot of supporters. “Parents do what they need to do to survive,” a fan argued. “Yara is alone most of the time, so no one gets to mom-shame her for nothing.” It’s true that Yara has spent a lot of time raising Mylah without Jovi around, so she may just need time to adjust to a new sleeping dynamic now that he’s home. “She’s obviously a loving and engaged Mom regardless if folks agree with her decisions,” another commenter said.
Yara has always gotten a lot of criticism for one reason or another, but on the last episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, she was getting it from her husband and in-laws. Co-sleeping is a hot topic in the parenting community, so it’s not surprising that Yara would catch flack for her decision. However, by the end of the episode, Yara seemed open to considering switching to a crib, which will at least get Jovi and her in-laws off her back, even if fans still want to judge her.
