Horror

Terribly sad news to report this afternoon, as we’ve learned that beloved actor and comedian Gilbert Gottfried has passed away at the age of 67 after a long battle with illness.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness,” his family states today. “In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor.”

Born February 28, 1955, Gilbert Gottfried was known the world over for his unique voice and sense of humor, a truly one-of-a-kind force on the comedy scene who moved from stand-up into the worlds of film and television with iconic roles including Iago in Disney’s Aladdin, a character he continued to memorably voice in various spinoff projects over the years.

Gilbert Gottfried also appeared in films including Beverly Hills Cop III, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, Look Who’s Talking Too, Problem Child, House Party 3, Meet Wally Sparks, and Doctor Doolittle, as well as the TV shows “Superboy,” “Night Court,” “Beavis and Butt-Head,” “Bobby’s World,” “Married With Children,” “Aladdin,” “Wings,” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

Gottfried, of course, was also the original voice of The Aflac Duck.

On the horror front, Gilbert Gottfried recently made us laugh in “Critters: A New Binge,” and he also appeared in Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens and Sharknado 5: Global Swarming.

Back in the early 1990s, Gottfried appeared in the original “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” television series, playing the character Roy in episode “The Tale of Station 109.1”. He was also the original host of “Up All Night,” introducing horror movies like only Gottfried ever could.

If you’re looking to “laugh as loud as possible” today, pick literally anything Gilbert Gottfried appeared in over the years. No matter the role, he’ll always keep you laughing.

All of us here at BD send our deepest condolences to Gilbert’s family and friends.
