Last month, Trevor Noah announced that he was readying his departure from The Daily Show. Noah, who has helmed the Comedy Central series since Jon Stewart exited in 2015, broke the news during a taping of the show on September 29. Now, Comedy Central has revealed that Noah’s final episode will air on Thursday, December 8. The network also teased The Daily Show’s return on January 17, however a new host was not announced.

“Trevor is an incredible talent who has left an indelible mark on The Daily Show and we’re grateful for his creative partnership over the past seven years,” Chris McCarthy—President & CEO, Paramount Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios—said in a press release.

Noah added: “Chris [McCarthy] has been an amazing leader and partner who has helped me realize my dream of working not just in front of the camera, but also behind the scenes, producing content which now airs across the Paramount family. I’m truly excited to see what the future holds.” 

In addition to announcing Noah’s final date as host, Comedy Central revealed that starting December 5, The Daily Show will take a “celebratory look back” at Noah’s greatest moments helming the program.

During his time as Daily Show host, Noah hosted the Grammy Awards for two years in a row, and welcomed many musical guests to the series such as Japanese Breakfast, Margo Price, Vince Staples, Solange, and others.

Noah is the most recent late-night television host to exit a show, following the breakup of Desus & Mero, James Corden’s imminent departure from The Late Late Show, Lilly Singh walking away from A Little Late, and Samantha Bee exiting Full Frontal (although Bee’s series was canceled).

When Noah announced his impending exit during a clip from the series titled “A Special Message from Trevor Noah,” the comedian said that he found himself “filled with gratitude for the journey.” He continued:

It’s been absolutely amazing. It’s something that I never expected. And I found myself thinking throughout the time, you know, everything we’ve gone through, the Trump presidency, the pandemic, just the journey of, you know, the more pandemic. And then, and I realized that after the seven years, my time is up.

But in the most in the most beautiful way. Honestly. I’ve loved hosting the show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I have loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh, even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days. You know, we’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together. But, after seven years, I feel like it’s time.
