‘Thaw’ – ‘Evil Dead Rise’ Filmmaker Lee Cronin Directing Aquatic Horror Movie for New Line

Horror

As you may recall a few years back, there were rumors about DC villain Clayface appearing in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which of course ended up being quite untrue. Now rumors are swirling that the character will be appearing in The Batman 2, also being directed by Reeves. Additionally, Mike Flanagan’s name has been coming up in reports about the character.

Jeff Sneider first reported this afternoon, “BREAKING: Mike Flanagan has pitched a CLAYFACE movie to James Gunn and Peter Safran. No greenlight yet, it’s just an idea right now.”

But let’s hold that thought…

Flanagan himself chimed in shortly thereafter, “Re: CLAYFACE – the news today is entirely speculative. When or if something like that ever becomes real, I promise I’ll tell you guys.”

For what it’s worth, Deadline has also run a story this afternoon on a potential Mike Flanagan/Clayface project, seeming to confirm the original tweet from Jeff Sneider.

Deadline reports, “Mike Flanagan has pitched a feature version of Clayface over at the studio several sources tell Deadline, however, no word on greenlight yet — and the studio has not said ‘No’. There are no offers and no deals. Though typically a DC supervillain, in the Flanagan pic, should it move forward, he wouldn’t be a bad guy (so we hear).”

Again, it looks like Flanagan has had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran over at DC, but as Flanagan himself tweets, that doesn’t mean anything is actually happening.

Deadline also reports, however, “…other sources are telling us that scripts are constantly changing, and that Clayface is a big addition to Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2.”

In other words, we’re dealing with a mountain of information here that may amount to little more than a mole hill. All we really know for certain at this time is that Flanagan is *interested* in making a Clayface movie, which he’s made no secret of in recent years. Whether or not Clayface appears in The Batman 2 or gets his own movie… that all remains to be seen.
