Grimes has officially released a song that she has been previewing live for at least a year. The new song, “Welcome to the Opera,” is a collaboration with the electronic music producer Anyma (aka Matteo Milleri of Italian duo Tale of Us). Listen to it below.

“Welcome to the Opera” finds Grimes singing herself, but, lately, she’s been servicing her vocals through the AI software Elf.Tech. The software invites others to record or upload vocals for regurgitation in Grimes’ own voice, and it’s resulted in AI-assisted collaborations like Kito’s “Cold Touch.”

Earlier this spring, it was revealed that Grimes is no longer with Columbia Records. She joined the label in 2021 and shared two singles through Columbia, “Player of Games” and “Shinigami Eyes.”

Coming up, Grimes plans to release the new singles “Music for Machines” and “I Wanna Be Software” soon. Her most recent album remains 2020’s Miss Anthropocene.
