Dawn Richard has shared a pair of new songs, “Babe Ruth” and “Your Love / Legends,” along with a video for the former. The songs appear on a new three-track release, The Architect, that Richard is classifying as an “epoch.” It comprises today’s two tracks and the previously released “Bubblegum.” Below, watch the video for “Babe Ruth,” a song that draws on Richard’s career as a softball catcher, and listen to “Your Love / Legends.”

In press materials, Richard said of The Architect:

I’ve always had a fascination with the concept of a “traditional single release.” How the industry tells you, in order to have a successful single, it has to be a certain amount of minutes to be played on radio, or streamed, or on a chart. I say fuck that. I never agreed with that construct. I wanted to create a single that was similar to a conceptual album. If you take away the idea that it has to be for radio, that it has to be a clean edit, that it has to be a specific thing in order to be successful, what would be the outcome? Epoch 1.

Richard’s last album was 2022’s Pigments, a collaboration with Spencer Zahn (who also announced an album today). She will perform with Chai and Ill Peach as part of Pitchfork Music Festival London. Find tickets for that and the other festival events here.
