After nine years in production, indie game studio Hypixel Studios has announced the cancellation of the highly anticipated upcoming Minecraft–based game, Hytale. The axed title would have had players complete and create minigames in a Minecraft-like world. The project had been in the works since 2015, following the success of the Hypixel Minecraft server with a similar premise. Sadly, the studio will be winding down operations and shutting down over the next few months, taking the unreleased Hytale with it.
The heartbreaking announcement was shared on the Hytale website on June 23, leaving the game’s dedicated community devastated and prompting hershohm on Change.org to promptly create a petition to save the game. Now, just five days later, the petition has already passed 1,500 signatures. Rather than asking the studio heads and Riot Games (who provided funding for the canceled title) to continue working on Hytale, the petition asks the devs to release any part of the game’s build to its fans, “ensuring Hytale’s legacy can live on through the community!“
