Queen Camilla was not among the family members at Katharine, Duchess of Kent’s funeral.
The queen consort, who previously planned to join the royal family in laying the Duchess of Kent—who died Sept. 4 at age 92—to rest on Sept. 16, pulled out of the historic event as she recovers from illness.
“With great regret, Her Majesty The Queen has withdrawn from attendance at this afternoon’s Requiem Mass for The Duchess of Kent,” Buckingham Palace wrote in a statement to E! News, “as she is recovering from acute sinusitis.”
The statement continued, “Her thoughts and prayers will be with The Duke of Kent and all the family.”
Nearly a week prior, the palace shared that the funeral of Her Royal Highness would take place at Westminster Cathedral.
“Ahead of the Funeral, The Duchess of Kent’s coffin will rest in the private chapel at Kensington Palace,” Buckingham Palace announced in a Sept. 6 release. “Their Majesties The King and Queen and Members of the Royal Family will join The Duke of Kent and members of The Duchess’s family at the Requiem Mass for The Duchess of Kent.”
