Stephen Graham Confirms Adolescence Season 2 Is In The Works: “Stay Tuned

Adolescence co-creator Stephen Graham announced that season 2 is in the works.

Although the Netflix breakout was initially supposed to be a limited series designed to stand on its own, Graham confirmed that he and co-creator Jack Thorne are currently discussing a second installment. Speaking backstage at the Golden Globes, he revealed that while it’s still in the early stages, they intend to release Adolescence season 2 in a few years. Check out his comments below:

I cannot answer that question because it’s somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and Jack’s mind, and we’ll pull it out in three or four years, so stay tuned.

Along with being a co-creator of Adolescence, Graham also stars in the Netflix series. He portrays Eddie, the father of Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper). The critically acclaimed show follows the story of Jamie, a troubled teenager who gets arrested for killing his classmate. Adolescence also features Erin Doherty, Kaine Davis, Ashley Walters, Faye Marsay, Amélie Pease, and Austin Haynes.

While Graham was very cryptic in his response regarding Adolescence season 2, next to nothing is known about the upcoming chapter. However, there has been a lot of online speculation about what a second installment could be about. Many fans on social media said that they would love to see the victim’s parents’ side of the story and what they were going through during the events of season 1. Others suggested that it could be an anthology series, and the next story will revolve around an entirely new group of characters.

The series won several awards at the Golden Globes. Breakout actor Cooper took home the award in the supporting actor category, while Erin Doherty won best supporting actress for her portrayal of therapist Briony Ariston, and Graham won the best actor category for his role. Adolescence also received the Best Limited Series award.

The Golden Globes isn’t the only awards show that Adolescence dominated. The show earned 13 nominations and 8 wins at The Emmys. Beyond critical acclaim, the series has also proven to be a massive success among general audiences. It ranked second as Netflix’s most-watched English-language series ever, amassing more than 146 million views within the first 3 months of its release.
