The Vampire Diaries was famous for its decade dances over the years, and now Legacies is keeping the tradition alive with a bitchin’ new theme. The CW’s synopsis for Episode 5 of Legacies‘ second season teases an ’80s-themed decade dance, and OMG, sweet dreams are made of this.
“As the Salvatore School prepares for its upcoming ’80s-themed decade dance, Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) find themselves trapped inside a never-ending labyrinth with a monster on their trail,” the synopsis reads. “Meanwhile, Josie (Kaylee Bryant) and Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) decide whether or not to take their relationship to the next level. Elsewhere, MG (Quincy Fouse) turns to Kaleb (Chris Lee) for advice on what to do about Sebastian (Thomas Doherty), while Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) struggles to adjust to his life back at the school.”
Fans of The Vampire Diaries know that school dances (especially decade dances) were never just fun and games and they almost always resulted in bloodshed and magical mayhem. It sounds like this shindig will probably be more of the same, but at least the outfits will probably be bad to the bone?

The last time Mystic Falls High tried to throw an ’80s themed decade dance — planned by Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt), herself — it ended up being canceled by the mayor. Something about too many people mysteriously dying? Here’s hoping this generation is able to enjoy the crimped hair, shoulder pads, and red balloons more than the last!
More specifically, we really hope Alaric (Matthew Davis) gets to take a break from monster hunting to enjoy this dance, seeing as he never had a great track record with them on The Vampire Diaries. The first decade dance he attended nearly ended with him outing himself as a vampire hunter to Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), the next he spent possessed by Hope’s dad, Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), and then Esther Mikaelson ended up killing him and turning him into an unkillable Original vampire hunter during his final decade dance. On second thought, maybe the poor guy should just stay home?
