Jennifer freaked out after hearing Kayla and Justin were a couple, Eric proposed to Nicole, and Ciara decided she could save baby MacKenzie without anyone’s help.
Our TV Fanatics Jack Ori and Christine Orlando are joined by Phoenix, and Tony from MyHourglass a Days of Our Lives fan forum to debate Justin and Kayla as a couple, Jennifer’s reaction, if Nicole will tell Eric the truth, and their favorite moments from this week’s Days of Our Lives.
Kayla and Justin or a couple. Love it or hate it? React!
Jack: UGH. Remember when they tried putting Kayla with Shane and it was a total failure? This is worse.
Kayla and Justin don’t belong together at all, and Adrienne deserved a better send-off than an off-screen death and Justin being shuffled off to Kayla.
Phoenix: Justin and Adrienne were once considered a super-couple but they’ve been back-burned for years, so I can’t say I cared much if they were together or apart.
Kayla’s been missing Steve for over a year, so I don’t mind her moving on. For Justin it was quick, but a lot of guys who lose their wives generally move on pretty quickly because they don’t do well being alone.
For right now, I’m willing to see where this pair goes.
Tony: I don’t necessarily hate it, but I do think it’s very rushed.
Christine: Per Jack’s above reference, I HATED Kayla and Shane all those years ago but I don’t mind Kayla and Justin. So far, they act like two adults who have suffered loss and found some happiness with each other.
It’s as though they can both get a fresh start and, surprisingly, I’m enjoying them more than I expected.
Did Jennifer overreact or did she have reason to be angry about Justin and Kayla becoming a couple so quickly?
Jack: Jennifer wasn’t wrong that Justin and Kayla moved on quickly but her hypocrisy annoyed me.
How long was it after Jack’s “death” that she moved on with Daniel again? Wasn’t half of JJ’s problem when he returned to Salem in 2013 that his mom had almost immediately replaced his dad with her new boyfriend?
I wish Justin would have mentioned that even though it would have been odd to say it in front of Jack.
Phoenix: Jenn’s reaction was over the top but she just woke up from a year-long coma so I’m willing to cut her some slack.
Hearing Adrienne was dead and that Justin and Kayla were a couple all at once was too much for her to handle.
Tony: I get that Jennifer was friends with Adrienne (at least I think she was, they haven’t really had many scenes together recently), but I think she went a bit over the top.
Christine: She overreacted, and part of that was the fact that she had just been told about Adrienne’s death and she was shocked.
She simply couldn’t comprehend the loss of one of her best friends and learning that Adrienne’s husband was already involved with someone else and that person was Kayla!
Yes, Justin moved on with Kayla quickly, but people have a right to be happy, especially when it’s not truly hurting anyone else.
Will Nicole say yes to Eric’s proposal without telling him he’s the biological father of Sarah’s baby?
Jack: God, I hope not! We’ve been down this road too many times, and I don’t want a repeat of the shreds nightmare, nor do I want the truth coming out at their wedding.
Phoenix: Part of me wishes Nicole would keep her mouth shut, get married to Eric, and they both leave Salem, but I doubt I’ll get my wish.
Tony: I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t tell him.
Christine: In my head I know Eric has the right to know his child but he so annoys me that I dread the day he learns little Mickey is his.
I think Nicole may very well break down and tell him, which won’t help her at all because Eric will still hate her for keeping it from him for over a year.
Should Ciara have gone to the police with what she knew about Mickey’s kidnapping?
Jack: Of course she should have. Going to Ray’s to collect the baby with no backup was dangerous and stupid.
I can’t believe she gave the guy her real name and relationship to Clyde/Ben and that she thought she could just waltz in there and steal Mickey back from a potentially violent kidnapper.
Phoenix: Ciara’s an idiot but the show seems determined to make her a hero. She’s going to save Ben and baby Mickey, take down Xander and Victor, and probably take over the Police Commissioner position before the year is out. (Yes, I’m being sarcastic, mostly.)
Tony: Yes! Anything that can help Sarah be reunited with her daughter is helpful!
Christine: Yes! She knows or is related to most of the police department and this was her best plan! She left a baby’s life in danger so she could protect Ben. I’ve never been Ciara’s biggest fan but I’ve never thought this poorly of her either.
Was Marlena out of line to be so rude to “Hope” when she came home?
Jack: Not at all. She can see clearly that “Hope” is making moves on John and is reacting to protect her relationship. John is making it clear where Brady gets his idiotic side from with how he’s reacting to “Hope”.
Phoenix: Marlena’s reaction was weird because she was angry as soon as she returned. You’d think she’d live with Hope a few days and then feel like something was off but it didn’t happen that way.
Tony: Perhaps, but I have a feeling she knows “Hope” is Gina, or at least not really herself, so I can kind of see it from that angle.
Christine: Marlena was rude to Hope the moment she walked in the door which made little sense to me. Hope and Marlena have been friends for decades.
The audience knows about Hope/Gina’s machinations but we’re led to believe that Marlena didn’t until she got back. And trying to kick Hope out the first day she got back seemed particularly mean.
What do you consider the most boring new storyline since the time jump?
Jack: Xander and Nicole fighting about whether Eric should know that he is Mickey’s biological father. It’s the same argument they’ve been having since before the time jump. Move on already!
Technically that’s not a new storyline, though, so I’ll also throw in Gina’s one-sided conversations with “Stefano” or whoever that is.
Phoenix: Gina talking to a faceless, wordless Stefano is both boring and annoying and if I have to hear her call him “Steffy” one more time I’m going to scream!
Tony: Honestly, I didn’t think any of them are necessarily boring. I do think I could do without Kristen and Lani, though.
Christine: Chad and Abigail. They’ve been in bed about half the time and/or talking about Stefano or talking about getting revenge against Gabi.
There was a time I enjoyed these two but since they’ve been back I’ve found them incredibly boring.
What was your favorite quote, scene, or storyline this week in Salem?
Jack: I laughed out loud at this Days of Our Lives quote…
Ben: I’m sorry.
Ciara: It’s not your fault that we’re both related to idiot criminals.
Also, as much as I’m tired of Xander and Nicole’s argument, I loved Xander’s heartfelt declaration of what makes him Mickey’s father even if they’re not related biologically.
Phoenix: Xander is so sweet with that baby. I also kind of liked Hope/Gina riling up Marlena because that was fun.
Tony: I actually really like Princess Gina and this whole mystery with Stefano! While I hope they haven’t recast him, as it would be disrespectful to Joseph Mascolo’s memory, I’m interested to see where this goes.
Christine: I loved Xander remembering all of the ways he’s cared for MacKenzie and how he considered himself her father. It will break my heart when Eric tries to take that little girl away.
Also, I always enjoy it when Chad and Sonny get together to catch up. These two make really good friends and I’ve missed that.
