Actress Lauren Graham starred as Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls for all seven seasons of its initial run, and later returned for Netflix’s revival series, but what else has she done since the show ended? Graham and Alexis Bledel were the two leads of Gilmore Girls, and the former in particular was key to its success, given how hard it is to imagine anyone else in the role of Lorelai.
Graham was a perfect match for Amy Sherman-Palladino’s rapid-fire dialogue, although her role on the show didn’t leave a huge amount of room for major projects. She did appear in a couple of notable movies while Gilmore Girls was on the air, including Bad Santa and Evan Almighty, but playing Lorelai was clearly the focus. Graham served as a producer on Gilmore Girls season 7, and also received Golden Globe and SAG nominations for her performance, but where did that lead her?

Following the ending of Gilmore Girls in 2007, Graham appeared in a couple of movies, including a voice role in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, but her next major gig came with 2010’s Parenthood. Graham starred as Sarah Braverman for over 100 episodes of the hit ABC series. Like with Gilmore Girls, Graham’s main role on Parenthood kept her busy for most of its run. She did, however, find time for appearances in the likes of It’s Kind of a Funny Story and The Odd Couple, but Parenthood was her focus until its end in 2015. After that, it was back to Stars Hollow for Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, with the 4-part miniseries a big success for the streaming service.
Graham’s on-screen work has been relatively slow since the Netflix revival of Gilmore Girls came to an end. In 2017 she had a recurring role on Curb Your Enthusiasm, and served on the voice cast for animated series Vampirina, but not a lot else. However, she also spent part of the decade writing two books, both of which hit The New York Times’ bestseller list, and working on a screenplay for an adaptation of The Royal We. It’s not been a huge amount for Graham fans though, but that is changing.
Lauren Graham has kicked off 2020 by appearing in the pilot episode of NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, which stars Jane Levy in the title role. There, Graham plays Zoey’s boss at tech firm SPRQ Point; it’s expected that Graham’s role will be a recurring one, so more appearances can be expected from her there. Even bigger news is that Lauren Graham has been cast in Disney+’s Mighty Ducks series. Graham will play the mother of a son who is cut from the Mighty Ducks team, and so she starts up and coaches a new outfit instead. Assuming that’s a success for Disney, then it could be one of Graham’s biggest hits since Gilmore Girls ended.
