In another brilliant homage to a childhood classic, one Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has masterfully recreated a couple of locations from the original Monsters Inc. Fans have been using the Nintendo-produced town simulator to pay tributes to several beloved films and TV shows, and the works of animation powerhouse Pixar are no different.
So far, these have included things like homemade reenactments of the hit musical Hamilton and Villagers dressing up as characters like Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender. As far as Disney properties go, one fan managed to rebuild Andy’s Room from Toy Story, and another has recreated the intro sequence to the Disney Channel animated series Gravity Falls. Now, it seems that 2001’s critically acclaimed Monsters Inc can be added to the list of beloved classics given loving tributes in Animal Crossing.

Reddit user emilyx38 posted screenshots of their Monsters Inc tributes to the Animal Crossing subreddit yesterday, showing a near spot-on recreation of the titular company’s basement locker room and Boo’s bedroom. Details from the film include the famous Scream containers that the monsters rely on for a power source, Child Detection Agency uniforms hanging along the locker room, a blue baseball cap for Monsters University on a nearby dresser, and even a strikingly accurate avatar of Boo herself in her room. Aside from displaying their love of classic Pixar films, players have been using Animal Crossing: New Horizons for all manner of interesting activities since the game was released back in March. New Horizons’ island town setting has served as a fun substitute for the social activities that have been put on hold because of the recent coronavirus outbreak, like getting married in some very creepy venues. Others have even managed to make an honest living performing in-game tasks for paying customers.
Overall, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has opened the door for all manner of creative output and community involvement, such as emilyx38’s loving tribute to Monsters Inc. The level of detail shown in the locker room is impressive, with fun little touches like the pictures of various Animal Crossing characters along the walls, the CDA uniforms, and the little Monsters University hat on the side. As for Boo’s bedroom, the signature flower pattern on the door, cute drawing of Sully, and even the Villager dressed as the girl herself are all spot-on. It’s another brilliant display of affection for something that many in the gaming community have grown up with, as well as an impressive show of skill using Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ in-depth home design tools.
