An Inside Look Into Author Cathy Jackson

Books

If you had to give up either snacks and drinks during writing sessions, or music, which would you find more difficult to say goodbye to?

Cathy: Music. Almost every one of my books have a playlist on Spotify that I’ve either written the book to or has music inspired the story.

Which is your favorite season to write in, and why?

Cathy: My favorite season to write in is Fall. I love looking out the window at the changing color of the trees and the leaves falling. The scene is so inspiring!

You feel uninspired and you’ve sat at the computer for an hour without conquering any words. How do you get your creativity flowing?

Cathy: Watch YouTube videos or a television show that has nothing to do with the book I’m trying to write. Relaxing and taking my mind off writing actually helps to jump-start my creativity.

What has influenced you the most as a writer?

Cathy: God. I didn’t want to write until my momma’s death in 2014. I wanted others to know no matter what was happening there is always hope and they are incredibly loved. God was the One who got me through my momma’s death.

Do you like audio-books, physical books, or e-books better? Why?

Cathy: Paperbacks, for me, are about collecting my favorite Authors. Christine Feehan, Gena Showalter, Stephenie Meyer, and EL James make up a majority of the books on my shelf. I also have J.H. Kimbrell, Jessica Cardwell, Nathan Day, Jordan Deen, Kenzie Michaels, and Brian K Morris.

What behind-the-scenes tidbit in your life would probably surprise your readers the most?

Cathy: I’m sensitive and empathic. Information, whether visual or knowledge, is given to me. I choose whether or not to relate what I see or know. I don’t verbally tell everyone what I know because I’ve had mixed reactions.

What is the funniest typo you’ve ever written?

Cathy: In one of the Yours To trilogy of novels, I didn’t state who was speaking. Once I wrote in who was talking, the entire perspective of the chapter changed. My husband, Matthew, and I had a laugh before the change was done.

Do you feel like you’d be a better writer if you wore sparkly socks during your writing sessions?

Cathy: Who wouldn’t that make a better writer? Fun fact: I often write in the nude or as close to naked as possible. It’s a sensory thing. If I have very few things touching my skin, I’m able to write more descriptively.

What does being a successful author look like to you?

Cathy: Being a successful Author means I can give back to people whatever they need. Whether it’s helping them with a prayer, a helping hand, a shoulder to cry or lean on, or an ear to listen.

What are two of your favorite covers of all time? (Not your own.)

Cathy: My two favorite covers are Dark Prince by Christine Feehan and The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter. Both are excellent Authors and I love reading their books!

What is your favorite cover out of all your books? Why is it your favorite?

Cathy: My favorite cover out of all my books is Written On His Heart. It’s also my newest book release, and it’s a beautiful story of forgiveness and love. The hearts on the cover and back are adorable!

How do you think being a writer has helped you as a person?

Cathy: I’ve gotten to know me more. This has been a blessing and has helped to gain insight into who I really am. I’m able to assess my strengths and weaknesses and use them to help others in their journey.
