Lady Gaga confirmed her role in the upcoming Joker sequel Folie à Deux by sharing a cryptic yet camp video.

The “Stupid Love” hitmaker will start opposite Joaquin Phoenix, who is returning for the role of crooked supervillain Joker following the success of 2019’s Joker.

Set to “Cheek to Cheek” from Gaga’s 2014 album with jazz legend Tony Bennett, DC Comics fans and Little Monsters got their first glimpse of the artist in the film.

A silhouette of Gaga at least. The clip sees shadows of Phoenix and Gaga dancing together, possibly hinting at the bad romance between the two.

But the brief teaser ended by revealing fans will have a while until Gaga puts on her Joker face – the film will drop 4 October 2024.

Prepping for the inevitable, the official BAFTA Twitter account shared a photo of Gaga adding: “How this tweet feels.”

“Give her the BAFTA,” replied one fan. “Otherwise don’t come under her tweets.”

Saying Little Monsters were whipped into a ra-ra-grade frenzy at the news would be an understatement.

Rumours have been swirling for months that Gaga will star in Joker: Folie à Deux as the bubbly, pastel-coloured criminal Harley Quinn, who has a rocky relationship with the Joker, to say the least.

The film is also set to be a musical – it’s a movie with Gaga in, after all.

The title of the film refers to when two or more people are experiencing the same mental health condition.

Lady Gaga is in no way a stranger to the acting world. She dazzled in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci in 2021, playing the seductive socialite-turned-killer Patrizia Reggiani – sadly, the real Reggiani was not as impressed by her performance as Little Monsters were.

She’s also no stranger to Joker director Todd Phillips, who is co-writing Joker: Folie à Deux with Scott Silver. Phillips helped produce 2018’s A Star is Born, which saw Gaga play thunderous rising, well, star, Ally Campana.

So Gaga’s ever-dedicated fanbase couldn’t believe that she was set to start in yet another film.

“Whenever I think Gaga’s career has peaked, she proves me wrong. There’s always another epic milestone just around the corner,” wrote on Twitter user.

“Isn’t it so exciting being a little monster? She is incredible.”
