With the release of the Ghostbusters – Special Edition ROM hack by BillyTime!Games earlier this month, those of you who want the authentic experience of playing a physical version on your Genesis are in luck. A fan has decided to go the extra mile and create a physical cartridge for the hack, complete with new boxart.
Per Ghostbusters News, a fan on Instagram named @toy_saurus_games_sales has created a physical cartridge for Ghostbusters – Special Edition that will work on the original Sega Genesis hardware. The glow-in-the-dark slime-green cart comes with updated packaging that mimics the classic casing for Genesis games, as well as an updated manual that reflects the changes made to the game.
If you’d like your own physical copy, you’ll have to set aside $60 for it all. Keep in mind that this a limited edition situation. Not to mention that this is wandering even more into the grey area of legality, as neither Columbia Pictures or Sega have endorsed this.
Still, the thought of being able to play the hack on original hardware is a chance that some fans are willing to take.
As we’ve mentioned before, the Ghostbusters – Special Edition ROM hack inserts Ernie Hudson‘s Winston Zeddemore into the game for the first time, as well as adds new costumes into the game for the team, new cheat codes and unlockables, a save feature and even a new difficulty mode.
