Red Dead Redemption 2 Lasso Can Apparently Be Used As a Human Flail

Movies

Every cowboy needs a good lasso, and a Reddit user has just discovered that the one John Marston uses in Red Dead Redemption 2 is strong enough to whip a human NPC into another at breakneck speed. Just like its sister title Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games’ open-world western sandbox adventure has been home to a number of mods and hidden secrets since it first rode into gamers’ hearts back in 2018, thanks to its critically acclaimed single-player campaign and its popular online component.

The game’s near-limitless systemic gameplay results in crazy events like one unlucky Red Dead Redemption 2 gunslinger accidentally hogtying himself to the ground in the middle of a firefight, police stealing horses just like the criminals they’re supposed to be putting in jail, and even breaking the game’s well-crafted code to mod their character into an all-powerful Superman-like being. Even the less-than-savory elements of Red Dead Redemption 2’s playerbase seem to provide outlandish watercooler moments, like hackers filling the game’s world with hordes of two-headed skeletons that attack anyone foolish enough to approach them.

A video detailing yet another case of wild west hijinks was posted to the r/Gaming subreddit earlier today, courtesy of Red Dead Redemption 2 player u/Dynastydood. In it, protagonist Arthur Morgan is chasing down a couple of witnesses to his latest violation of the law on horseback across a grassy field. He eventually catches up with them, grabbing the legs of one would-be whistle-blower with his trusty lasso and swinging him straight into his friend like a human flail, effortlessly knocking them both out cold (or dead). Check out this stunning display of cowboy creativity below:

Wacky moments like this are all the more possible thanks to the vast in-game open world that developer Rockstar painstakingly built for Red Dead Redemption 2, filled with NPCs so detailed in their programming that they will get cranky when a player decides to wake them up in the middle of the night. Even Red Dead Redemption 2’s animals have been realized to the fullest extent, so much so that one fan actually wrote a thesis on the behavioral patterns on the different breeds of horses the player can choose to ride.

On this note, seeing Arthur Morgan using one man as a human projectile to take out another is as impressive as it is hilarious. As cartoonish as it seems on paper, while watching the scene play out one can track the physics behind it all, as Arthur spins his horse in a circle to build the momentum needed to send the unlucky witness on the other end of his lasso flying into his equally hapless partner. All in all, this is simply one more instance of Red Dead Redemption 2 making the wild west all the wilder, and fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
