Marvel’s Falcon & Winter Soldier Show Is Almost Finished Filming

Movies

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie reveals the show is almost finished filming. The upcoming Marvel Disney+ TV series was one of many projects affected by the coronavirus pandemic, shutting down production in March as things started to take a turn for the worse. Since then, it’s been on hold and the creative team is unsure when work can resume. Prague, where The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was filming earlier this year, is now open for movie and TV productions, but there’s been no word on when Marvel will start rolling the cameras again.

Back in February, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was slated for an August 2020 release on Disney+, but odds are it won’t be able to reach that date. Even if the crew can work on post-production tasks (like visual effects shots) remotely, the episodes naturally can’t be completed unless the team has all of the necessary footage. A delay seems likely to happen in the near future, but fortunately whenever The Falcon and the Winter Soldier can start back up, there won’t be much work left to do.

During his appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Mackie addressed the Falcon and Winter Soldier production delay, ensuring fans that the show is not cancelled and they’ll return to filming when they can:

“I’m happy to say we are not cancelled. We are on hold. We’re going back hopefully sometime soon and finish it up, we have very little stuff to do. I’m very happy with it. We have a little more to go back to do. But everybody rest assured, it will come out.”

Like a majority of postponed productions, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is in a holding pattern as Marvel monitors the situation. The coronavirus pandemic remains a very fluid situation, and there are a number of factors that will determine when The Falcon and the Winter Soldier can start back up again. On-set health and safety guidelines need to be ironed out, and it’s believed large productions will have a harder time resuming due to the size of their crews. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier may not be a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, but it still requires an extensive team to make. There’s also the matter of international travel and getting everyone back to the location. It’s difficult to predict when The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will return to production since there are so many unknowns.

Marvel’s WandaVision is reportedly resuming filming in July, but that isn’t necessarily a timetable for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. For starters, that July date could change depending on how things progress between now and then, and it’s also looking to return in Los Angeles, not another country. The situations are somewhat similar, but it isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison. Time will tell when The Falcon and the Winter Soldier can get back to work, but hopefully it can soon and fans will be able to watch the show.
