PS5 Special Edition Plates Console, DualSense, & Headphones In 24K Gold

There is going to be at least one special edition color scheme for the PlayStation 5 for those with a considerable amount of cash to throw around, one made out of sterling 24-karat gold. Sony’s newest console turned heads with its strikingly different white and black finish when it was unveiled last month, but few likely expected to see it dipped in shiny, expensive metal.

Fans have already begun to wonder what colors the PS5 will come in when the system is released this holiday season, with redecos of the previously revealed DualSense controller and paint jobs based on upcoming games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the inevitable PS5 port of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim making the rounds online over the past few months. There was even word of an all-black PS5, although this ultimately turned out to be a hoax. However, there is a more extravagant color option coming, provided players act fast and have a small fortune in gaming money laying around.

British luxury brand Truly Exquisite released an ad for their limited edition, 24K gold PS5 on YouTube a few days ago, consisting of the console itself, a DualSense controller, and a wireless headset all glistening in an exotic yellow sheen. According to TechRadar, Truly Exquisite founder and CEO Kunal Patel described the PS5 as “the most anticipated games console to ever be released” and stated that his company is “offering a luxury limited-edition PS5 for those individuals that truly want to stand out will be a popular choice.” He also went on to say that they will be producing no more than 100 gold PS5s, and that customers already want to preorder them. The price for this gold PS5 is still unknown, but it is worth pointing out that a similar gold-plated Xbox One cost almost back when the last generation launched. 24 karat gold isn’t cheap, and it will likely add a considerable amount to what fans believe will already be a hefty sticker price. The price isn’t the only possible drawback, as all that metal plating will likely make the already 11-pound PS5 all the heavier. Finally, that shiny gold finish might not look as nice on the DualSense after players have smudged it from a few sessions of Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart.

As such, while Truly Exquisite’s 24-karat PlayStation 5 might be nice to look at, it’s probably not the most practical choice for fans looking to jump into the next generation of console gaming. Those with the money and taste for it are certainly free to jump on board while the limited supplies last, but most gamers are likely going to stick to the standard white-and-black paint job when the PlayStation 5 hits stores later this year.
