Here are the 36 movies Troy McClure starred in throughout The Simpsons seasons 2-10, as well as the dozens of TV shows and hilarious specials the actor hosted. Voiced by the late, great Phil Hartman, who also voiced Springfield’s resident shyster Lionel Hutz, Troy was one of the FOX comedy series’ most beloved ancillary characters.
Along with Krusty the Clown, Troy McClure was one of the few celebrities who resided in Springfield and lent the town some Hollywood star power. Troy was a prolific actor during his heyday in the 1970s when he starred in numerous B-movie knockoffs that can still be seen on Springfield TV during rainy afternoons. But scandal drove Troy out of Tinseltown when his “romantic abnormality” (i.e. a romantic infatuation with fish) was discovered. McClure made his home in Springfield and eked out a living hosting various local TV specials, celebrity funerals, and infomercials. Troy finally received the spotlight in The Simpsons season 7 episode, “A Fish Called Selma”, when he married Marge Simpson’s sister Selma Bouvier in a (mostly successful) bid to get his career back on track.

Among Troy’s best-known hits are the Radioactive Man movie, The Itchy & Scratchy Movie, and his comeback Broadway musical Stop the Planet of the Apes, I Want To Get Off! Unfortunately, Troy passed on starring in the McBain movie in favor of his pet project, The Confabulous Fabtraption of Professor Horatio Hufnagel. Phil Hartman last voiced Troy McClure in The Simpsons season 10 episode, “Bart the Mother”. The characters of Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz were respectfully retired following Phil Hartman’s tragic murder in 1998. But Troy is still fondly remembered and he has been occasionally referenced in later Simpsons episodes. Troy’s impressive body of work lives on forever as part of The Simpsons‘ legacy.
