AGT Extreme: How Wheelz’s Major Fail Led To Ultimate Success

Movies

On America’s Got Talent Extreme, the first episodes have aired and contestant Aaron Wheelz had a major fail, which proved to judges that he was worthy of a golden buzzer. America’s Got Talent allows contestants to show off their unique talents. However, this year, AGT took it a step further and created a spin-off dedicated only to extreme talents. Every Monday for the next four weeks, contestants compete with the most daring stunts in front of three judges, Simon Cowell, Travis Pastrana, and Nikki Bella. All want to win the $500,000 prize.

On the first night, there were over eight performances, featuring talent that kept viewers on the edges of their seats. Most performances made it through to the next round, but the last contestant stood out to most. Wheelz has spina bifida and says his wheelchair gives him “freedom.” He performs stunts in his wheelchair and decided to join America’s Got Talent Extreme to show off his talents to the world. Unfortunately, his performance didn’t go as well as he had hoped.

Wheelz climbed a 40-foot-tall ramp to perform a stunt that he doesn’t “always land.” He must’ve miscalculated the timing of his flip, as he landed face-first on the platform. Without missing a beat, Wheelz got back into his chair before going for a second try. The judges tried to talk him out of it, but he bravely responded with, “The first one tells you what you did wrong and then the second one you come through.”

Aaron Wheelz won the golden buzzer in America's Got Talent

He kept his head high as he successfully completed the second attempt. As a result, AGT judge Nikki Bella gave him the golden buzzer, and he progressed to the next round. The judges were in awe of Wheelz’s determination and skills, as they felt that few other contestants would have the courage to do the same. Wheelz didn’t just show off his skills that night, as he showed America’s Got Talent: Extreme just how committed he was to making his dreams a reality.

It’s rare to find someone like Wheelz, who will try an extreme stunt twice, regardless of any physical limitations. It’s clear the judges see this as well and that’s why he earned the golden buzzer. In the end, viewers hope that Wheelz’s next performances are less gut-wrenching but are eager to see what Wheelz has in store in future America’s Got Talent Extreme episodes.
