Star Wars Eclipse Job Posts Hint Game May Not Release for 5 Years

Movies

Job postings for positions in developing Star Wars Eclipse indicate that the upcoming game may not release for another five years. The new Star Wars game, which will take place in the period of the High Republic, was unveiled during The Game Awards 2021 December livestream event. Though die-hard Star Wars fans were delighted to hear about the new game in development, many were not as excited to learn that Quantic Dream is developing Star Wars Eclipse.

The new Star Wars game has reportedly been in development for about a year and a half yet has continuously faced obstacles on the road to its release. Well-known leaker Tom Henderson had previously shared rumors that the new game would not be released for another three to four years due to Star Wars Eclipse was facing development trouble. Some of the development issues plaguing the game include Quantic Dream’s game engine causing problems due to its core design mechanics. Staff shortages were also allegedly to blame for the development obstacles, and this has seemingly been confirmed by the developer’s job posts.

In a recent article posted to Xfire, Tom Henderson points out that open vacancies on Quantic Dream’s job board may indicate that Star Wars Eclipse will not be released until potentially 2027. The staff shortages were previously mentioned by Henderson roughly three months ago, prompting him to propose that Star Wars Eclipse’s release was three to four years away. In December of last year, Henderson pointed out that Quantic Dream had more than 60 job openings in France, and this still seems to be the case as there are now 67 job vacancies in Paris.

Star Wars Eclipse Lightsabers Delay

Upon further investigation by Xfire, Henderson discovered that the studio has been updating the “published on” date shown on the vacancies to make them appear as if they had been recently posted. As of the date of the Xfire article, the oldest “published on” date for a job listing is the beginning of this past February. Using a digital internet archive tool, it was confirmed that the “new” postings were the exact same postings that had been published before–with the same URLs and wording. In some cases, the “new” vacancies were originally posted almost two years earlier.

Though the alterations of the “published on” dates are not hard evidence of Quantic Dream facing trouble, it is indicative of the fact that staff shortages continue to plague the company, and will likely influence the delay in the development of Star Wars Eclipse. Unfortunately for Star Wars fans, it seems that Star Wars Eclipse’s release is lightyears away.
