Fans can’t stop laughing at Jonathan Groff’s not safe for work slip up about his Thanksgiving parade outfit, with one fan commenting that his interviews always include “some gems”.
In celebration of Thanksgiving (27 November), the Doctor Who star performed with the cast of Broadway’s Just in Time at the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
But he made a hilarious blunder when talking about his planned outfit for the occasion during an appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends.
The Tony-winning actor shared: “I am gonna just brave the cold in the costume. I’ve decided to not wear any undergarments.”
“Any extra undergarments,” he quickly clarified.
Guest host Andy Cohen was quick to make a joke about what could happen if Groff opted to “free ball” during the parade. “You need long underwear,” he joked.
‘Hilarious’
One fan captioned a clip of the moment: “No Jonathan Groff interview is complete without a hilarious freudian slip.”
Other fans left laughing emojis, while another joked: “So he goes commando when?”
“Interviews with Jonathan are always worth taking the time to watch. you never know exactly what will be said but you know there will be some gems no matter what,” another fan remarked.
A glance at his performance, which featured extensive dancing to “Splish Splash”, makes it clear that underwear was necessary.

Groff portrays pop singer Bobby Darin, best known for his string of hits like “Splish Splash” and “Dream Lover”, in Just in Time, a role he will play up through to March.
Groff, who last year began Pride month by saying that he was “single and full of PrEP”, previously shared that he was inspired by his former partner, Gavin Creel, to come out publicly as gay.
In 2024, American Horror Stories star Creel died on 30 September from a rare, aggressive form of cancer. He was 48.
