The further you hear it, the closer it is in The Whistler, based on the Venezuelan legend El Silbón. Watch the trailer below.

Previously known as The Fields Are Watching, the supernatural horror film stars Diane Guerrero (“Doom Patrol”) and Juan Pablo Raba (“Narcos”).

It will premiere at Fantaspoa in Brazil on April 11 before hitting select North American theaters on April 17 via Vertical.

The story follows a couple, reeling from the loss of their daughter, who unexpectedly inherit a secluded farm. Hoping to start fresh, they instead encounter a cult claiming it can summon spirits from beyond, forcing them to deal with dark forces and their own inner demons.

Diego Velasco (“Orange Is the New Black”) directs from a script he co-wrote Esteban Orozco (“El Chapo”) and Carolina Paiz (“Orange Is the New Black”), based on an earlier screenplay by Nacho Palacios.

Indhira Serrano, Laureano Olivarez, Laura Sofía Domínguez, and Norberto Rivera round out the cast.

Margaret Miller & Trevor O’Neil of Hideout Pictures (Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Spirit Halloween: The Movie) produce alongside Velasco.

The Whistler is a story of grief, longing, and the ghosts that haunt us, inspired by Venezuela’s folklore,” said Velasco. “I’m thrilled Vertical is bringing it to U.S. audiences. I can’t wait for viewers to step onto the farm and feel the fear.”
