Spider-Man is arguably the most recognizable comic book character in history (alongside Superman) and he’s had some pretty formidable foes over the years, to match his stature as a giant in the genre.

Arguably the most popular of those is Green Goblin, who has featured heavily in most recent Spider-Man projects, from movies to TV and video games. That includes the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, one of the most important PlayStation exclusives right now, where the character has been set up as the overarching antagonist that players will have to confront in the threequel.

Happily for fans, leaked designs for the character emerged online, and it’s safe to say that the community was very taken with the potential art direction.

Over on Reddit, one user shared a post featuring leaked concept art for the Green Goblin’s appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. The images emerged as part of the 2023 data breach at Insomniac Games, in which over 1 TB of confidential data was accessed and shared online.

The design features the character clad in a black hooded robe in a genuinely memorable and distinct design that really drives home the character’s mental state.

“This version looks slick, terrifying and insane! I can’t stand the Ultimate universe and its character designs,” one comment read.

“The other one concept with him in front of Norman’s penthouse kinda looks like a torn version of this outfit. That and the fact that he seems to be an actual goblin backs up my theory that he’ll start with a 616 inspired look then gradually transform into the Ultimate-like fire demon for the final boss fight,” another added.

“This is great – feels more modern than the original classic design but without going the ‘everyone is in a robo suit’ path of the movies,” a third said.

Another could hardly contain their anticipation, saying, “Goblin looks decent here. The eventual three-way brawl between Spider-Man, Goblin and Doc Ock is going to be the coolest thing ever. People stressing about no Peter are such fools. He’ll be back but in DLC I’m 100% sure.”

Sadly, we’re yet to get actual confirmation from developer Insomniac Games that the third mainline game in the Marvel’s Spider-Man series is on the way. Whilst it’s still a pretty safe bet, given just how successful the first two games were, the studio is heavily focused on dusting off the Wolverine game before that launches on September 15 this year.
