Harry Potter is officially making a major resurgence with the upcoming release of the new HBO series, which promises to recreate Rowling’s original story more faithfully than the films. While it’s yet to be determined whether the series can pull it off, and casting decisions have already been the subject of great debate among fans, there’s no doubt fans old and new will be tuning in when the series officially debuts this winter.
However, the HBO series is far from the only major Harry Potter release fans are getting excited about, with hype for the official Hogwarts Legacy sequel at an all-time high. While there’s still very little information available on the project as of this writing, Warner Bros. Discover is likely to give us an update soon while the iron is hot on the franchise.
That said, if you’re tired of waiting for a Hogwarts Legacy 2 update, Harry Potter fans are in luck, as a brand-new modern-day Harry Potter RPG has officially been confirmed for release in the coming months (via Player One).
Harry Potter fans will want to mark their calendars for October 2026, as the brand-new Defenders of Hogwarts RPG has officially reached its funding goal on Kickstarter and is set to ship out later this year. Harry Potter: Defenders of Hogwarts is an exciting tabletop RPG from MinaLima, the acclaimed graphic design studio behind many of the iconic props seen throughout the Harry Potter films.
The project has blown past its original Kickstarter funding goal, and is fast-approaching almost a million dollars in funding as of this writing, indicating a massive show of interest among Potterheads with 17 days still left to go for the campaign. Designed for 2–5 players ages 13 and up, the game places participants in the tense hours leading up to the final epic “Battle of Hogwarts.” The “Defender” and “Guardian” editions of the game will ship this October, while the Collector’s Edition is slated for a March 2027 shipment.
Players must choose whether to remain loyal to Hogwarts or side with Voldemort’s Dark Forces, creating an asymmetric tabletop experience where both sides pursue different objectives. Gameplay revolves around exploring Hogwarts Castle, improving spell-casting abilities, gathering useful items and allies, and preparing key areas of the school for the inevitable siege.
Those defending Hogwarts can cooperate with fellow players and even enlist Dumbledore’s Army to strengthen the castle’s defenses, while Dark Forces players work to sabotage those efforts by spreading corruption and paving the way for Voldemort’s victory.
With its unique dual-strategy design, faction-specific abilities, and the possibility of rewriting the finale of one of the Wizarding World’s most famous battles, Defenders of Hogwarts aims to deliver a highly replayable Harry Potter experience that will scratch the RPG itch while players wait for official word on Hogwarts Legacy 2.
