The Medium and Shutter filmmaker Banjong Pisanthanakun is bringing his demonic psychological horror movie Inherit to the Toronto International Film Festival next month, and Screen Daily has unveiled the first trailer.
Davika Hoorne (A Useful Ghost) stars as a grandma possessed by a demon in what TIFF calls “her most magnetic role yet.“
Hoorne plays Woranart, who returns home 50 years later without a trace of aging. That’s likely because she’s possessed by a centipede spirit seeking a new host: Woranart’s 18-year-old granddaughter, Oui (Baipor Thitiya Jirapornsilp).
Sinjai Plengpanich, Trin Settachoke and Warattaya Nilkuha also star.
Banjong Pisanthanakun directs from a script he co-wrote with Thamsatid Charoenrittichai and Chantavit Dhanasevi, based on the Thai horror novel Tayard Asoon.
While the trailer below emphasizes psychological tension and atmosphere, we can count on reliable scares from this filmmaker.
Banjongpreviously revealed to ScreenDaily that this story stuck with him since childhood: “At its core, it’s a story about power, legacy, and the darkness we inherit. It’s a Thai story but told with the scale and sophistication that international audiences crave.”
Thailand’s most successful film studio, GDH 559, is also behind Banjong Pisanthanakum’s upcoming psychological horror movie.
Expect to hear more about Inherit and TIFF’s horror selections soon, as the festival gears up to announce its Midnight Madness lineup, where Obsession made its world premiere last year, tomorrow.
