Lesbian written on side of London buses for first time ever

For the first time ever, the word “lesbian” appeared on the side of TFL buses in London –and it’s all down to FLINTA dating app HER.

The new campaign, “Every Type. Yes, Even Yours”, celebrates the wide spectrum of sapphic attraction in the UK, featuring hyper-specific “types” that pop up in the community.

Whether it’s “wolfcut wlw”, “T4T baby”, “bisexual baddie” or “raging lesbian”, the sapphic community is taking up space and grabbing attention with the HER campaign.

Speaking to PinkNews at the HER takeover of La Camionera’s Single Night on 6 October, HER Social Media manager Abi Smith said: “We have taken over some TFL busses with our lovely campaign, just celebrating all the different sapphic types and how nuanced and funny our little community is with how specific we are with our types. How you’re like, ‘I’m gonna find the exact criteria of what I love.’”

“It was just a really interesting thing doing the research for this campaign and the graphic designers found out that this is the first time anyone has ever used the word ‘lesbian’ on a TFL campaign, ever.”

She went on: “I can’t believe it, it’s 2026! But yeah, no-one’s ever done it before. So we’re very excited to finally debut the word ‘lesbian’ to London.

“London, time to learn about lesbians!”

The campaign comes at a time when, although sapphic culture is gaining visibility, some aspects are still under pressure. HER wants to give that well-deserved spotlight to the community by supporting sapphic-run spaces.

What is HER?

FLINTA dating app HER was created to bring sapphics together, whether that be for love, friendship or just connecting with new people.

The app allows users to talk and date, while also bringing its community of more than 15 million users worldwide together through queer events.

Head of Brand Ashley Tick said: “It’s a dream to keep putting sapphic culture on the main stage, but visibility alone isn’t enough. We also want to invest in the people and spaces that sustain our community.

“That’s the future of HER: bold, visible and showing up for our community in real ways, in real life.”
