Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage sometimes goes for silliness over relatability, and that’s a shame.
The problem of Cee Cee being unable to sleep was one of its most relatable storylines, but once Meemaw got involved, things got silly.
Still, I always love it when she and Mary are on-screen, and we even got a Dale cameo. Plus, Connor had an actual storyline.

Cee Cee Losing Her Stuffed Monkey Was Funny Because It Was True To Life
The opening scene of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 15 got my attention because the same thing happened when my niece was little: she had a favorite little stuffed toy that she couldn’t sleep without and was forever losing.
Of course, we didn’t have anyone in our family who could create a new one, nor anyone who was so money-hungry they would sell it and cause trouble.
I’m not sure how I feel about that plot development. It was typical Meemaw, but it was… silly.
It wasn’t as bad as when she got involved with illegal gambling when Cee Cee was an infant (and by the way, I can’t believe that kid is already three years old!), but it seemed heartless that Meemaw would sell the toy that Mary went to the trouble of sewing so that Cee Cee would have it.

Mandy should have known better than to leave Meemaw alone with the toy or with anything else, though. You can’t turn your back on Meemaw without her coming up with some harebrained scheme, especially where money is concerned.
It was pretty brazen of her and Mandy to sell the fake Beanie Baby toys in the same store that didn’t have the real thing, though, and the scene with the woman who was offended by the idea of a knockoff was hilarious.
And as cruel as it was to rope Mary into this scheme by pretending it was for charity, the tag with Mary running into a mother who had one of the toys and treating her kid like an invalid almost made it worth it.
We take TV seriously, even the comedies.

But my favorite part of this silly scheme was Dale’s reaction to it.
He’s not exactly the paragon of virtue he claims to be, but whenever Meemaw gets involved in something stupid, he’s right there with a sarcastic comment, and it probably killed him not to admit the truth.

I Had To Get Used To Meemaw All Over Again
Annie Potts has been doing great work over on Best Medicine, but my brain stopped thinking of her as Meemaw, and it took me a minute to remember what this character was all about.
That was really nobody’s fault, but the two characters are so different, and Annie Potts’ ability to move seamlessly from one to the other is impressive.
Once Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 15 got going, everything clicked into place, and Meemaw’s behavior seemed true to character, even if it aggravated me.
I’d have loved it if Mary found out about the scheme, though. She’d be over-the-top angry, and it would have been comedy gold. Maybe that’ll come in a later episode.

Connor Rarely Gets Good Stories, And This Was One Of His Best
I don’t remember exactly what happened between him and Chloe, but I know he had trouble letting go of the relationship once it ended and called his ex-girlfriend obsessively for a while.
That’s why it was such a triumph for him to turn down her offer of renewing the relationship.
Should Connor have given Chloe another chance?

Connor is still too often a background character or worse, the butt of jokes about how weird he is.
So when he gets a real story, it’s always refreshing, especially if it shows some personal growth.

As a side note, I liked his sweater with the rainbow stripes the best of the three that he wore this time around — too bad it was only in one scene.
Anyway, Connor’s decision not to give Chloe another chance would have been stronger if he’d grown consistently over the past several episodes, but it was still a great character development beat.
I also liked the subplot under this story of Audrey having to let go of her son and allow him to risk getting his heart broken again.
Audrey is not always the most sympathetic character. Sometimes she’s too judgmental and bossy, to the point of being annoying.
But underneath those behaviors is often the desire to protect her kids, especially Connor. She knows her son is different and that people will hurt him for it, and she does her best to minimize the risk.

That, in itself, makes her more relatable, and I’d love it if Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage would include more stories about Audrey’s relationship with Connor.
